PHNOM PENH, CAMBODIA – May 11, 2026 – Amid Cambodia’s efforts to expand standardized daycare services across formal enterprise sectors and government ministries, ‘ChorogUsan for children’ officially inaugurated ‘ChorogUsan Child Development Center’.
Operating under the Boeung Trabek Child Development Project, this center addresses a critical gap by bringing a quality childcare model directly to vulnerable children living along the sewage canal.
Without access to safe childcare, children are frequently neglected while their parents work as scavengers or street vendors selling clams and snails. In many cases, parents are forced either to bring young children into these harsh working environments or to have older siblings drop out of school to take on caregiving responsibilities.
Guided by its core value of putting the “Child First”, ChorogUsan prioritized the establishment of this new center to provide comprehensive services, including full-day care for children aged 2-4, half-day school readiness programs for 5-year-old children, after-school learning support, monthly health check-ups, and parent engagement programs.
The inauguration was attended by high-ranking officials who emphasized the project’s national significance. Her Excellency Dr. Kim Sethany, Permanent Secretary of State of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport, praised the center's alignment with Cambodia's Pentagonal Strategy and Vision 2050.
“Investing in children today is building a strong foundation for the future of the nation," she stated. "We want them to grow with love, good health, life skills, and positive behavior.”
Sharing this vision, His Excellency KIM Chang Ryong, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Cambodia, reflected on South Korea’s development journey driven by education.
“This center is not just a building; it is a ‘hub of hope.’ With quality education, nutritious meals, and medical support, these children will grow into Cambodia's future leaders,” he remarked.
Mr. Hwang Young Key, CEO of ChorogUsan for children Headquarters, highlighted the organization’s 78-year legacy in child welfare.
“This center is an integrated support model built through the dedication of our sponsors and partners. As the saying goes, ‘it takes a village to raise a child.’ We hope this space becomes a safe and sustainable environment where children can learn, grow, and see their dreams flourish.”
The center marks the beginning of renewed hope for vulnerable children and aims to make a meaningful difference in their lives by promoting dignity, well-being, and holistic development through integrated care and protection.
